We all know the state of corruption in India exists on all levels. The Jan Lokpal Bill or as it called in English 'Citizen's Ombudsman Bill' is actually a bill which is drafted by some civil society members of India. It is about the appointment of a Jan Lokpal which is basically an independent body which is supposed to fight the corruption in the country.
To end the corruption in the country, this body was set up. But it never really came to full force until the protests of Anna Hazare which shook the country and united them against the vice of corruption. Anna Hazare became a prominent figure in the country at the time and his influence fast-tracked the amendments of the Lokpal Bill.

Hazare intensely protested that anti-corruption laws were not enough and we need to create an independent body of Lokpal.
1. Both bills include provisions for attachment and confiscation of property acquired by corrupt means.
2. It makes it compulsory for public servants to declare their assets and liabilities along with that of their spouse and dependent children.
3. The Act also ensures that public servants who act as informants (who gives information to the agency) will also be protected.
4. Lokpal will also be given the power to conduct trials in a special court if they feel that the trial is of extreme importance. They can also fine people for false or inaccurate complaints (fine could reach up to more than a lac).

Earlier, the politicians could find their way out of the law but Lokpal will make sure that they are held accountable for their corruption charges. It is important for India because if corruption is not removed from the top level then it will also be there on the root level. If the cleanliness of the system is to happen to create an honest workspace in the nation, it has to begin with the leaders.

There is a famous philosophy of Gandhi ji that was often preached to us as kids. It basically stated that if we wanted to make a change in the world, it has to start with us. Similarly, when it comes to politicians making laws which govern all of us, they should be the first ones to follow it too. Anna Hazare also emphasized the same thing that politicians are called out for their corruption.
Even though the act was passed in 2013, the Lokpal is appointed by a five-member committee including:
Prime Minister,
Lok Sabha Speaker,
Chief Justice of India, Leader of Opposition
And a member appointed by the Prime Minister.
The demand for this autonomous body was inspired by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and taken forward by, 'Team Anna'.
