The great great theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and what else I should say!!. He is all in one an all-rounder.
At the age of 21, he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease which makes muscles weak, it can be in arms, legs, shoulders, or tongue. When he got diagnosed with this disease, Doctors told him that he has got 2 more years to live. But his willingness to live was beyond limits.
And we all wondered how Stephen Hawking used to do all his researches or giving lectures in the colleges or how he manages to write his books.
Intel Corporation, the master of everything. Stephen Hawking computer was designed and sponsored by Intel. ACAT, a programming language, which provides Hawking a keyboard on the screen and their was a cursor which was used to scan the keyboard and it's characters.
His cheek helped him select the character from the keyboard. His cheek movement is detected by an infrared switch that is mounted on his spectacles. He used to twitch his cheeks whenever he wants to communicate with the machine. The most used words were predicted automatically before selecting the whole word which eventually saves his time in selecting the character's and framing those characters in sentences.
And when the sentence is formed, Hawking's got another external device which collects the sentence from ACAT and transfers it to a speech synthesizer which helps to give a voice to his framed sentences.
All his work, in short, is done by ACAT. The whole computer is handled by this smart software which was specially made for him.
Other than framing sentences, ACAT also helped him in operating his whole computer by just his *twitch*. He used to check his email using Microsoft Outlook, he used to surf the internet using Firefox, or he write his lectures using Microsoft Word.
